This recipe is NOT dairy-free!

Recipe adapted from A Taste of Home Cooking

  • 1 cup plain greek nonfat yogurt (or dairy-free greek yogurt *see below for details)
  • 1 cucumber
  • Fresh dill
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 small garlic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice

Peel cucumber and remove seeds. Chop. You will need 1 cup of chopped cucumber

Mince garlic.

Chop dill for 1/4 cup.

Mix all ingredients in bowl and add salt and pepper to taste. Serve as a dipping sauce for pita or as a topping for souvlaki or other Mediterranean dishes.

With the help of an awesome friend, we prepared an amazing Greek meal tonight. You’ll have to wait for the rest of the dishes, but here’s a taste! Honestly, the tzatziki is the best part! I sent him home with the leftovers, but you better believe I’ll be making another batch for my the pita chips I’ll be picking up at the grocery tomorrow!

Although this recipe does contain dairy, I have found that I am able to have greek yogurt, but not regular yogurt. I do not recommend those who are lactose intolerant try this recipe unless you are willing to test your limits.

It has been brought to my attention that dairy-free greek yogurt DOES exist! SO Delicious  makes a line of dairy-free, almond milk based greek yogurts. Click here for the link to plain greek yogurt that will work with this recipe. If you’ve tried it before or found a location that sells it, I’d love to hear about it in the comments section 🙂
